Shenyang Tiexi District Employee Table Tennis Competition
2014-07-30
From July 28 to 29, 2014, the "2014 Employee Table Tennis Competition of the Metal Industry in Shenyang Qigong District" was grandly held, organized by the Metal Industry Trade Union Federation of Tiexi District and the Qigong Street Trade Union of Tiexi District, with assistance from Boyu Metal Co., Ltd. and China Ordnance Material Shenyang Co., Ltd. Representatives from 22 enterprises in steel, logistics, and other industries, including Shenyang Tengfei Steel Pipe Co., Ltd., participated with a total of 52 players in men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed singles competitions.
On July 29, four colleagues Ding Ling, Wu Jie, Dong Ran, and Li Shuyi represented Shenyang Tengfei Company to participate in the metal industry employee table tennis competition held by the Tiexi District Trade Union of Shenyang City. The atmosphere at the competition site was lively with many skilled players present. Following the principle of friendship first and competition second, both men's singles and women's singles matches were held simultaneously. The men's singles followed a knockout format where only winners advance while losers are eliminated. The women's matches were conducted in a round-robin format; each match was thrilling. Most players were older with refined skills and long playing experience. Among the female players was a professional table tennis coach from Liaoning Province whose movements and techniques were truly professional; it was an honor to compete against such skilled opponents. Despite our team's advantages not being fully displayed in men's singles and women's singles due to unfamiliarity with the venue and a noticeable skill gap compared to other players, we recognized the need for more practice and some technical breakthroughs. In women's singles, performance was somewhat average with many serving errors causing significant psychological pressure; the more one aimed to score on serves, the more counterproductive it became. After the competition ended, our team summarized our experiences and made adjustments for improvement in upcoming doubles matches where we saw some progress; both men's doubles and women's doubles showed improvements compared to singles play as cooperation and understanding between partners are crucial. Ultimately through our collective efforts as a team of four, we achieved excellent results: second place in women's doubles, sixth place in men's doubles, fourth place for women’s singles, and fifth place for women’s singles. This competition made me fully realize the brutality and intensity of competitions as well as the importance of solid fundamentals; mastering techniques requires continuous practice. Teamwork is paramount. We should also embody sportsmanship at work—fearless of setbacks and moving forward courageously. I am very grateful to Tiexi District Trade Union for providing us this platform to showcase our abilities and connect with fellow table tennis enthusiasts in our industry. Next time we will definitely bring better skills and enthusiasm to participate in competitions.
